John is a seasoned veteran of the long-term healthcare and LTC pharmacy industry. Starting out as a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) administrator in 1981, he led four different facilities over a seven-year period. In 1984, he founded Propac Pharmacy in Portland, Oregon. He continued to operate a SNF until 1988, when it took over full operations at Propac Pharmacy. After growing the company to one of the largest LTC pharmacies in the Pacific Northwest, he sold Propac to Vitalink Pharmacy Services in 1993. He became a regional vice president for Vitalink, which in 1998 sold to Genesis Health Venture's NeighborCare Pharmacy. In 2001, he founded ProMed Search Firm, LLC, to fill the staffing needs of the pharmacy industry. He consulted in the second start-up of Propac Pharmacy in 2006. He opened Signature Pharmacy Solutions in 2012, and a year later, Signature merged with PayLess Drug LTC Pharmacy to become one of the leading LTC pharmacies in the Northwest. In 2016, Propac and Payless Drug merged to create the largest LTC Pharmacy in the Northwest Region of the United States. Today, PropacPayless serves approximately 35,000 patients in nine western states. John also continues to own and manage a SNF in Gresham, Oregon.
Since 2016, A.J. has led the PropacPayless finance department, driving initiatives to reduce costs and maximize value to its customers. Before becoming CFO, he held other positions of financial leadership in long-term care pharmacy, insurance, and assisted living facility management. A.J. started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers in its financial consulting and assurance practices. He holds an active CPA license in the state of Oregon.
Scott has served as COO of PropacPayless since 2016. He provides leadership to the organization by managing day-to-day operations. His responsibilities include overseeing the procedures and policies that maintain industry compliance, strengthening company culture, and providing a vision for the future. Prior to his role as COO, Scott served as president of Propac Pharmacy. A registered pharmacist in Oregon and Washington, he began his career as a pharmacist intern in 1988 after graduating from Oregon State University. He has stayed in long-term care pharmacy his entire career. Scott’s mantra has always been that if you take care of the customer, everything else will follow.
Paul’s primary goal as director of business development is to build and maintain trust with current and future customers by facilitating a relationship between the pharmacy staff and the residents, family members, and staff at each nursing and assisted living community. His background in pastoral ministry provides a unique perspective that contributes to PropacPayless’ emphasis in understanding that pharmacy is all about the people. He has worked in long-term care pharmacy since 1998.
Prior to joining the PropacPayless team in 2014, Cole spent seven years as a licensed nursing home administrator in Oregon. During this time, he acted as preceptor to several administrators in training, received a Malcom Baldridge bronze award, and oversaw the development and transition of Bend Transitional Care. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Seattle Pacific University, which has guided both his leadership and business philosophy.
Carol plans and monitors the daily pharmacy operations to ensure smooth and quality patient outcomes, while also providing staff management and department supervision. Prior to PropacPayless, she was the assistant pharmacy manager for Propac Pharmacy. She began her pharmacist career in a retail setting. However, in 2009, she discovered that working in long-term care pharmacy was where she wanted to be. Before receiving her Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Arizona’s College of Pharmacy, she studied microbiology at Gonzaga University and Arizona State University. Carol is a licensed and registered pharmacist in Washington and Arizona.
Chikai manages inventory, purchasing, and various operational projects for all six PropacPayless pharmacy locations. He also served as director of support services with Propac Pharmacy. He has over 20 years of experience in long-term care pharmacy operations and support, having worked as both project manager and operations manager before joining the PropacPayless team. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Business from the University of Phoenix in 2001.
Atta brings 25 years of experience across multiple settings to PropacPayless. He has mastered every position in an institutional pharmacy, bringing a wealth of leadership and skills to our clinical and consulting team. He is a graduate of Oregon State University and has experience in disease state management, including hemophilia and mental health. In addition to his clinical skills, he has created effective quality assurance programs in pharmaceutical programs. Atta believes at PropacPayless, each nurse at each location can help take the best possible care of our patients.
Brian has provided IT solutions to the pharmaceutical service industry for over 20 years. He has extensive experience in all phases of IT, including systems administration, infrastructure, security, and software development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Washington State University, which has provided a platform for him to merge business acumen with his broad technical knowledge.
Chris is responsible for consulting services and clinical educational activities. His previous experiences include clinical services management for several national and regional pharmacies including Propac Pharmacy and NeighborCare Pharmacy. He also has a background in hospital pharmacy and home infusion pharmacy services. His passion in clinical pharmacology is to make this complex topic “interesting and understandable” to everyone, not just the professionals. To that end, he has done numerous presentations to a wide audience including physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses and the general public. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Pharmacy from the University of Washington. Nationally, Chris has been active in the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists (ASCP) and has served on numerous national ASCP professional councils and committees. He was the past president of the Oregon Society of Consultant Pharmacists. He has also served on the Drug Use Review Council in Oregon and was a member of the Oregon Board of Pharmacy Long-Term Care Task Force for many years.
Darwin began his career with Payless in 1980, where he opened new stores and managed them to efficient operation. After the sale of Payless Drug to Rite Aid, he was approached by a small group of former Payless retail executives to start Payless Long Term Care in 2000. He has worn many director-level hats at PropacPayless, and is now responsible for the oversite of facilities management and logistics. Not only is Darwin the longest tenured employee at PropacPayless, he’s also the biggest Oregon Ducks fan on the team.
Jackson has been practicing as a pharmacist in long-term care for the past 30 years in Oregon and Washington. He took specialized classes in geriatric pharmacy at Oregon State University to prepare him to better serve the elderly population. He began his career working in a long-term care pharmacy as a provider pharmacist and consultant pharmacist. His journey has taken him from staff pharmacist to pharmacist in charge, and more recently as director of pharmacy for Payless Drug. In his current role as director of compliance for PropacPayless, he is responsible for ensuring the pharmacies are legally compliant in all of the states it serves. He has served as officer for both Oregon State Pharmacy Association and the Oregon Society of Consultant Pharmacist. He is also active with the Washington and Oregon pharmacy commission boards. Jackson is a strong advocate for patient care and is here to help anyone who needs his assistance.
Judy started her health care career 45 years ago in Southern California. It was there that she realized her passion was in helping people in need. In 1980, she moved to Medford, Oregon, to work as a billing office manager for Rogue Valley Community Hospital. A year later, she was promoted to the management team, where she pioneered the first drug and alcohol treatment clinic in Rogue Valley. In 1985, she joined Option Care home infusion as a business office manager, where she worked alongside the director of operations and oversaw the offices of two of their pharmacy locations. She was recruited by Clinical Health Systems Pharmacy to open a location in the Medford area. Judy was the director of operations for CHS Pharmacy for several years before coming to Portland to work for Payless Drug. Judy is a problem-solver, she gets things done, and will not hesitate to serve our customers. Her passion for people and expectations for quality care are what separate her and PropacPayless from the rest of the pack.
A native of the Pacific Northwest, Tracy has served as vice president of operations and PIC for PropacPayless since 2007. He has spent his entire 25-year career in long-term care, encompassing in-house operations and consulting with a focus on operational efficiency and customer service. Before receiving his bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy from Oregon State University, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Portland and certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
